Which Side Are You On, Where Will You Stand?

A wise man’s heart inclines him toward the right, but a fool’s heart toward the left.  (Ecclesiastes 10:2)

On the face of it this verse would seem like a political statement, and it might be construed as such except that it’s a much deeper than a simple statement. Today there are 197 countries in the world and each is governed by essentially one of only two types of governments. In order to clarify them we need to revisit the events surrounding Cain and his brother Able once again.

Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.” And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a tiller of the ground. In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel brought the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is couching at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.” Cain said to Abel his brother, “Let us go out to the field.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him. (Genesis 4:1-8)

So there we see the two types, one is distinguished as one who received approval and is blessed for his work. The other is sullen and envious of the blessings received by his brother. These exemplify the two basic types of people on the earth today. The Apostle Paul addresses one type saying; “For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)

They tend to covet the blessings and prosperity of others and through machinations, plots and clever devices they strive to partake of the blessings others have striven hard for which they themselves don’t deserve. These are on the side of humanity referred to as “The Left.” They are most often devoid of any interest or desire for God, often refusing to acknowledge Him and those that do, only casually. They are typically unbelievers absorbed in selfish interests. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs1:7) When speaking of the “Left” it is in reference to those who live in the shadow of the spirit of Cain.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice it. His praise endures for ever!” (Psalm 111:10) Those on the “Right” are generally hard working, God-revering people who are generous toward others and thankful to God for their health and blessings, they live in the image of Able and in God’s sight they are represented as His sheep.

The governments of most of the nations in the world are controlled by either a
Leftist (Socialist/Communist) government or a Right-leaning (Democratic Republic), the remainder are controlled by either a benevolent or despotic Monarchy. In either event the spirits of Cain and Able are well represented in each nation as the gulf between the two sides continue to widen and become increasingly more violent in the ongoing age old battle between good and evil. The Leftist governments heap onerous laws on the backs of citizens who are blessed with the fruits of their labor in order to divide up their wealth with others creating dependence on government, thus usurping the Great Provider’s role in people’s lives by deflecting man’s dependence away from God and onto Government. Note: The horned goat’s head is often used as a symbol of Satan, the goat is a fitting description for these types who so govern and their followers.

There will be ongoing battles, but we know that the Lord Jesus has already won the War on Calvary. Put your trust in Him, He is coming soon!

“When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Matthew 25:31-34)
