“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Here in Genesis the very first chapter of the bible is an account of how God created the heaven’s and the earth and everything in it along with His loving provision for mankind. Scientists have twisted themselves into pretzels trying to disprove through the logic of man, that which was breathed into existence by the word of God which all believers take on faith alone. This week we are witness to the world’s leaders meeting at a climate change summit in Paris, France. In their own great wisdom they have bought into the wisdom of men over the word of God. The unmitigated arrogance is astounding beyond words, as seemingly intelligent men play the fool for all the world to see. Because somehow these men believe that the future of the earth is in their hands and that they can somehow control a normal cyclic event of nature, when they have no control over their own lives and are unable to even control their own destiny.
By the sixth chapter of Genesis we get a better idea of who is into ultimate control and what happens when God’s creation gets out of control.
(Genesis 6: 1 - 4) Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
This is an account of what happened when certain spirits fell to earth and copulated with the inhabitants and is also evidenced by Greek and Norse mythology. (This is speculation but makes sense historically in literature.)
(Genesis 6: 5 - 7) Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Following that we have the great flood and the biblical story of Noah, a man whom God considered righteous and sought to spare. There are also secular allusions to a great flood carved in stone tablets dating circa 2600 - 2100 BC by the ancient Sumerians who populated Mesopotamia.
The bottom line of this message is that God is in total control and that mankind is willfully stupid, wasting his life’s energy on useless pursuits that will bear no fruit. This is clearly addressed in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth.
(1Corinthians 1: 20 - 21) Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
